This was running in my mind for long. A simple whatsapp status or a small writeup cannot be the right tribute for this great human.

Before speaking about his singing, SPB sir was a good human. If you have attended or watched his concert, you could have noticed how lively he engages with audience. God just did not bless him with a adorable voice, God also gave him a lovely soul and that is why it is very difficult to accept the fact that he is no more with us.

How could anyone make a small list of 1000s of songs SPB has sung? It is like finding which crystal of sugar is very sweet in a can of sugar! Of course, they all are. But we love the ones that reach us at the right moment and say those are so sweet.

I will discuss a few songs that SPB has improvised/made it more pleasurable to hear with his voice and wit.

Numbers are just to keep a count, it is not rank.

1

Here goes the first one! You can notice SPB’s smile as he sings there by instantly transferring the mood to the listener.

And the next one. This song was originally composed for Sadma (hindi version of Moondram pirai). If you hear the original composition, you will feel that singer Suresh Wadkar has done maximum justice to the song. I am no music expert but this one sounded like no more enhancement to this song would be possible. Even without understanding the hindi lyrics, there is still soul in it. And alas, there comes our SPB! By naturally including his trademark smile he further improvises and provides even more joy to hear.

The Original version sung by Suresh Wadkar:

This song is composed by Hamsalekha. SPB has sung some notable Tamil songs in his composition. This one is very different and Janaki amma equally makes this song more pleasing. After all, SPB and Janaki amma always compete on who scores more in a duet song which have ended up as treat for our ears.

Maadathile.. song from Veera(1994) movie was noticed mainly for Rajinikanth’s expression. SPB’s presence in this song can be felt if you only hear the audio. Especially the “hunhh” after “maatennu solluviyo” ❤❤

Next in the list is SPB’s own composition. I am including 2 songs from Sigaram movie. Most of the lyrics we can relate to SPB himself. We all wish that vennila (paadum nilaa) could come back to us from the sky..

To be continued… (was a busy day at work so could not add everything in mind)
